Boots Joins Free HRT Scheme
By joining this national effort, Boots shows its dedication to providing comprehensive healthcare services and supporting women through all stages of their lives.
An agreement has been reached by the Department of Health to make HRT treatment more accessible to women across Ireland through pharmacies this summer, despite previous setbacks. Boots is a pharmacy that is highly recognised across the Island of Ireland that operates 95 stores with over 2,400 employees. Boots are part of the plan to roll out the initiative to show their commitment to prioritising better healthcare.
Boots has announced its participation in the newly launched free Hormone Replacement Therapy (HRT) scheme, aimed at improving access to essential healthcare for women experiencing menopause. This initiative reflects Boots’ ongoing commitment to supporting women’s health and well-being.
Starting June 1, 2025, eligible women will be able to access free HRT prescriptions at participating Boots pharmacies nationwide. This includes a range of HRT treatments, such as tablets, patches, and devices like coils, which can significantly alleviate menopausal symptoms including hot flushes, mood swings, and night sweats. The scheme is part of a broader €35 million investment in women’s healthcare in Ireland. Women must sign up for the Health Service Executive (HSE) Drugs Payment Scheme (DPS) to qualify for the free treatments.
Caoimhe McAuley, Superintendent Pharmacist at Boots, expressed pride in the company’s involvement: “Boots is proud to be part of this important initiative, which will make HRT more accessible to women across the country. We are dedicated to providing comprehensive healthcare services and supporting women through all stages of their lives.”
This announcement comes ahead of the scheme’s official launch. Further details on how to access free HRT prescriptions through Boots will be available on the Boots website and in Boots pharmacies nationwide from June 1st 2025.
Boots’ participation in this scheme underscores its ongoing commitment to women’s health and its proactive role in enhancing access to essential healthcare services.
