Mater Private Network Expands Dublin Emergency Department Services to Improve Patient Care
Four new Emergency Department treatment bays added to Mater Private Network facilities in Eccles St. Doubling capacity for patients.
- With the creation of these new treatment bays, existing waiting times are anticipated to be significantly reduced
- Five new experienced nurses and consultants have been recruited to bolster the Emergency Department team, facilitate improved treatment times and maintain excellence in patient care
Mater Private Network proudly announces the opening of four new Emergency Department (ED) treatment bays at its Eccles Street hospital in Dublin 7. The expansion doubles the existing capacity for the Dublin hospital’s treatment area and is a testament to Mater Private Network’s ongoing commitment to excellence in patient care and seamless, inter-departmental treatment pathways.
Mater Private Network has also welcomed five additional ED team members, including consultants and nurses, all seasoned specialists in emergency medicine, to their growing team of experts in Eccles St. This will ensure patients feel the benefits from expedited treatment, reduced wait times, and a heightened level of comfort and care throughout their time in the Emergency Department.
A key advantage of this expansion is the anticipated reduction in patient wait times upon arrival at the Emergency Department. With a national average wait time of 12 hours at Emergency Departments across the country1, Mater Private Dublin’s Emergency Department has always been far ahead of the curve with an average treatment time of five hours, less than half the national average; these moves are expected to significantly reduce waiting times and facilitate quicker access to vital medical attention for patients.
Speaking at the opening of the new ED bays in Eccles Street, Mr John Hurley, Mater Private Network CEO said:
“2024 will be a busy year for development at Mater Private Network. We have a number of expansion plans in the pipeline, and with these projects, what we’re setting out to do is continue to deliver excellent patient care, but deliver it in a simple, streamlined fashion. While resources like the additional treatment bays will help us to simplify excellence in care, the true testament to our services is our staff, so I’d like to take this opportunity to thank our wonderful Emergency Department team for their continued efforts and exemplary patient support.”
Echoing this sentiment, Dr. Eamonn Brazil, Emergency Medicine Consultant said:
“These additional bays will make a huge difference to patient experience here at Mater Private Network, Dublin. Our team of Emergency Department staff have been great during this period of growth and now, as we officially open our four new bays, we as a team can continue to put our best foot forward. The extra capacity, extra space and extra resourcing opened today will allow us to do that.”
Moreover, Mater Private Network will continue to offer on-site access to advanced diagnostics and a network of specialist consultants. This ensures seamless coordination of diagnostics and treatment, enabling patients to undergo X-rays, CTs or MRIs, consult with additional specialists, or be admitted to hospital if required, all within the same visit.
In tandem with the ED expansion, Mater Private Network now provides a dedicated pathway for assessing fracture and trauma injuries on site. This comprehensive service includes triage, initial treatment, and access to surgical and physiotherapy consultation and review for injuries including:
- Clavicle, elbow and wrist fractures,
- Soft tissue knee injuries,
