Key partnerships enable charity (SII) to continue supporting 2,300+ individuals and families living with spinal cord injury across Ireland

For the various firms, who were carefully chosen by the charity, their strategic partnerships with SII comes as part of the charity’s wider commitment to creating a system where legal, financial and care expertise meet to provide key support for people living with spinal cord injury.

Those who are newly diagnosed with spinal cord injury must adapt to a new life in a wheelchair and cope with a host of challenges and accessibility issues in their daily lives across home, family and employment, as well as coping with the psychological impact of their injury, and SII are dedicated to supporting the individual as they start their journeys from rehabilitation and beyond.
The partnership will enable SII to continue providing their much-needed services to enhance the lives of people with spinal cord injury. On average, three people sustain SCI every week in Ireland, and SII are determined to actively assist these individuals to fully participate in society and live full, independent lives.
Fiona Bolger, CEO for Spinal Injuries Ireland (SII) commented on the partnership: “We are thrilled to announce our new strategic partnership with these outstanding businesses who provide excellent service to many of our service users. We support people living with spinal cord injury in all aspects of their lives, and we know all too well the legal and financial impact SCI can have on individuals and their families.
These partnerships form a key part of our commitment to enhancing the lives of our service users and means we can continue providing the invaluable services they need from counselling to peer support. As leaders in their respective industries, our strategic partners will play an important role in our journey to ensuring the utmost care and accessibility for the many people living with spinal cord injury all around Ireland.”
Last year, SII launched a public awareness and education fundraising campaign, “A Day In My Wheels” which highlighted the need for further accessibility and inclusivity for those living with SCI through encouraging businesses and individuals to make a donation and spend time in a wheelchair themselves, while learning the key issues affecting these individuals from SII service users. The Cork-based fundraiser raised vital funds totalling €40,000 for SII which went directly to the charity’s various key services and supports.
