Viatris to sponsor International Canoe Federation’s inaugural Women’s Paddlesports Symposium, attracting participants to Ireland from 35 countries

International Canoe Federation (ICF) Women’s Paddlesports Symposium is hosting over 100 participants from 35 countries at the Grand Hotel Malahide from September 26-27. The two-day ICF event is being hosted by Canoeing Ireland and where global healthcare company Viatris is a main sponsor.

The Symposium was opened by ICF President Thomas Konietzko and Minister of State for Sport and Physical Education, Thomas Byrne T.D. Key note speaker Zelda la Grange will speak about working alongside anti-apartheid activist and politician Nelson Mandela for almost 20 years. This will be followed by participatory workshops focused on leadership, coaching and change management, with Viatris Country Manager, Ireland Commercial, Melissa Fisher, a South African national, drawing on her personal experiences to lead the change management session. Panel discussions around the topics of encouraging more female coaches in sport and increasing women in leadership will round out the event’s two-day programme.

“We are proud to sponsor this inaugural, international women’s paddlesports symposium in Dublin. Lifestyle sports and recreation are crucial, not only for our physical wellbeing but also our mental health. However, work still needs to be done to bridge the gender gap in sports. Gender equity is a powerful driver of building healthier communities, which is our main goal at Viatris. I’m delighted to be part of the International Canoe Federation’s two-day event. I look forward to sharing my own experiences and learnings, as women encourage each other to drive positive change within their sport and communities,” Melissa Fisher, Country Manager, Ireland Commercial at Viatris commented.
