Minister for Health welcomes appointment of Mr Keith Synnott as National Clinical Lead for Trauma Services

Minister for Health Simon Harris TD today (Sunday) welcomed the appointment of Mr Keith Synnott as National Clinical Lead for Trauma Services

The appointment of Mr Synnott is one of the immediate actions prioritised in ‘A Trauma System for Ireland’ and will provide an essential foundation for the implementation of that system.  As recommended in the Report, Mr Synnott will lead the National Office for Trauma Services in the HSE and will be responsible for managing the implementation and oversight of the trauma system. The implementation will support a reduction in the incidence and the burden of trauma, significantly improve the survival rate of major trauma patients and ensure every patient receives the best possible standard of care in the most appropriate facility.

Welcoming the news today, Minister Harris said “I wish Mr Synnott well in this key role of driving progress and vital improvements in the quality of our trauma services, improvements that will ultimately result in better patient outcomes, more lives being saved and fewer people being left with a disability following severe injury.  The implementation of the Trauma Strategy is a key deliverable of the Sláintecare Action Plan 2019 and I am delighted to see progress being made in this area.”
