New initiative will see 250 extra cataract procedures in Nenagh this year and up to 10 times that next year
A stand-alone high-volume consultant-led cataract theatre by the University of Limerick Hospital Group in Nenagh Hospital has opened as part of the Government’s Waiting List Action Plan.
Health Minister, Simon Harris said:
“I am determined to tackle waiting lists. I sought a particular focus on reducing waiting times for a number of high volume specialties including cataracts when developing the Waiting List Action Plan.
One of these initiatives has come to fruition today with the opening of the dedicated Cataract theatre in Nenagh Hospital and the first group of patients from University Hospital Limerick receiving day surgery.
I am confident this new development will have a very positive impact in reducing waiting times for patients waiting for cataract procedures, especially in the mid-west.
I wish to thank the highly committed team in Nenagh for their hard work and wish them every success in this new venture.”
