Orwell Healthcare Announces 200 New Jobs as €30 Million Renovated Care Facility Nears Completion
Set to re-open early next year, the newly renovated residence in Dublin arrives amid the latest Nursing Homes Ireland warnings of a national “care capacity crunch”, requiring over 1,000 additional beds annually.
Dublin, 26 November 2025: Orwell Healthcare has announced a major expansion of its services as it nears completion of a newly renovated and extended €30 million premium care facility in Dublin, which will create 200 new part-time and full-time roles. The purpose-built 138-bed residence will re-open early next year, bringing the organisation’s total capacity to 308 beds across its existing Orwell Private residence on Orwell Road and its second care facility in Dublin 6, which is scheduled to re-open in early 2026.
Orwell Healthcare acquired the 46-bed Queen of Peace Nursing Home in Rathgar in 2017 and made significant investments to raise standards and expand services. Following extensive renovations of the former Queen of Peace residence, the facility will re-open early next year, extending Orwell’s ethos of pairing strong clinical leadership with a warm, community-focused environment for premium residential care.
The announcement comes as Nursing Homes Ireland (NHI) warns that the country must add more than 1,000 residential care beds each year to meet the needs of an ageing population. Its latest analysis highlights a growing national shortfall that could exceed 15,000 beds by 2040*. Against this backdrop, Orwell Healthcare’s investment represents a significant boost to care capacity at a time of urgent demand.
The 200 new roles will include Clinical Nurse Managers, Staff Nurses, Healthcare Assistants, Social Care and Activities professionals, Accommodation and Facilities staff, and Reception and Administration positions. All new hires will join a structured induction programme supported by ongoing online and on-site training to maintain consistent professional development across teams.
The residence has been designed to deliver premium levels of comfort, privacy, and personalised care. Facilities include a roof garden for year-round outdoor access, high specification private and shared spaces, purpose-built therapy rooms, quiet areas for families, and high-quality interior design throughout. A Multi-Disciplinary Team will provide coordinated clinical and social care with a strong focus on individual needs, wellbeing, and dignity.
Digital supports will be integrated throughout the building, including online training platforms, on-site learning sessions, and a digital library for staff. These tools will help maintain best practices and ensure consistently high standards of care.
Residents will have access to a varied programme of social, cultural, and community-based activities. These include group events, music, exercise sessions, creative programmes, seasonal celebrations, and regular outings supported by the Orwell Bus. Activities teams will work closely with residents to design weekly schedules tailored to their interests and preferences.
Mr Peter Jones, Group CEO of Orwell Healthcare, said: “This development is a major investment in the future of residential care in Ireland. We are creating a premium environment where comfort, dignity, and clinical excellence come together. With the national need for care beds growing year on year, this project expands our capacity at a critical moment and provides a home families can trust for their loved ones.”
Nester Changunda, Director of Nursing at the newly renovated Orwell Healthcare residence, added: “The clinical environment has been purpose-built to support safe, high-quality care. The combination of well-designed spaces, training supports, and digital resources will enable our teams to deliver consistently strong outcomes for residents. We are creating a warm, safe, and supportive home with a strong focus on community and meaningful daily life.”
