Irish Medication Safety Network (IMSN) Conference 2025: “All Grown Up – 18 Years of the IMSN” to take place at Royal Hospital Kilmainham, Dublin, 21 November 2025
This year’s event marks an important milestone for the IMSN as it reflects on nearly two decades of medication safety leadership and progress in Ireland. Since its establishment in 2007, the IMSN has grown from a small collective of passionate hospital pharmacists into the mature influential network and respected national voice it is today, shaping safe medication safety practices and supporting national and global initiatives to help minimise risk to patients.
Why this year matters
The 2025 conference agenda honours the journey of the IMSN over the last 18 years by looking back at the network’s evolution and key achievements to date, while also looking forward and examining future challenges, opportunities and ambitions for medication safety in Irish healthcare.
This year is the time to celebrate work undertaken by the network, including some of our recent IMSN working group outputs on managing risks with parenteral Iron, Time Critical Medicines, Medications & Falls risk, the on-going collaborative publications on the care of people with Parkinson’s between IMSN, Patient representatives and Parkinson’s Ireland.
We have two keynote speakers with National Clinical Lead for Venous Thromboembolism, Prof. Fionnuala Ní Áinle, presenting on the recently launched National Clinical Guideline on Venous Thromboembolism (Eve’s Protocol), and National Clinical Lead for Older People, Prof. Graham Hughes, focusing on Medication Safety in Older People.
In addition, progress on the Hospital Medicines Management System (HMMS) in Irish hospitals, innovation opportunities for medication safety via the HSE Spark Innovation Programme and quality improvement being undertaken by pharmacy colleagues at Irish Pharmacy Haematology Oncology Society (IPHOS) will be presented.
A major feature of the conference will be oral and poster presentations of local medication safety and quality improvement initiatives from across the country, with a showcase of 39 poster submissions on display in the venue’s chapel.
