Wednesday, 21st January 2026: A significant milestone has been marked at Beacon Hospital, as the first brick was officially laid on its ambitious €100 million eight-storey expansion project.

Following the completion of a phased demolition of the vacant and adjacent site to the hospital, the expansion project will see increased capacity including 70 new beds, a new Emergency Department, a new Oncology Day Unit and an additional 4 day-theatres. The expansion will connect directly to the existing hospital, allowing for seamless clinical and operational integration.

Clancy Construction has been appointed as the main contractor for the project, bringing its extensive expertise in healthcare and large-scale construction to the project. The first brick ceremony signals the next phase of construction works, which are expected to be completed in early 2027.

Beacon Hospital CEO, Michael Cullen said: “We are delighted to reach this milestone. Laying the first brick is a tangible step towards enabling the hospital to continue to meet the rising demand for acute care and enhance specialist services for patients across Ireland.

“We are very pleased with how smoothly and efficiently the demolition phase was completed, on time, on schedule, and with minimal disruption to hospital operations. We look forward to continuing our strong partnership with the Clancy team as we move into the next phase of this exciting expansion project”, he added.

Clancy Construction Chris Chambers, Dublin Regional Director said: “Clancy Construction is proud to partner with Beacon Hospital on this transformative and ambitious project. We look forward to delivering a state-of-the-art facility that will serve the healthcare needs of the community for many years to come.”

This expansion follows the recent opening of Beacon Hospital’s new Beacon Breast Centre, a €5 million investment that has doubled the size of the facility and tripled patient capacity.

Following the brick laying, work is well underway. Throughout the build, priority will be given to maintaining operational continuity at the hospital, safety on site, and minimising impact on patients and local community.
