University of Galway host Symposium on Frontline Pharmacy Informatics

University of Galway played host to a Symposium on Frontline Pharmacy Informatics (on Thursday, January 25, 2024), which aimed to bring together leading experts, practitioners and innovators to explore and discuss the transformative impact of informatics in the pharmacy domain. 

Crucial topics were covered on the day by national experts including hospital medicines management systems, e-learning initiatives for the safe use of high-alert medications, data analytics, digital pharmacy advancements, digital tools for safety enhancement, electronic prescribing and the development of a national cancer information system.

Speaking at the launch Professor John Given, Executive Pharmacy Manager at Galway University Hospitals and Adjunct Professor at University of Galway, said: “Pharmacy informatics plays a pivotal role in optimising healthcare delivery by leveraging technology to enhance patient safety, streamline processes and improve overall medication management. This symposium provided a platform for thought leaders to share insights, best practices and the latest advancements in the field. This collaborative effort with the University of Galway and the Health Informatics Society of Ireland underscores the commitment to fostering innovation and knowledge-sharing.”
