Moylagh JFK 50 Mile Challenge 2022 – Launch Walk Sunday February 27th

After a whopping €180k was raised last year, this year’s Moylagh JFK 50 Mile Challenge annual walk/run is back. The end Government restrictions the committee is happy that the Challenges to being a physical event once again in Moylagh. This is after two years of virtual events.

The launch walk was an ‘easy’ 8 miles starting at the Moylagh Community Centre. It takes in the beautiful Loughcrew Cairns and back to the starting point. A large crowd turned up to support the launch. Registrations are flying in. The committee is also looking forward to a return to 2019 numbers of well over 1,000 participants.

Last year’s achievement of €180k was raised after the event was physically cancelled in August due to Covid-19 restrictions. The Challenge went ahead in a virtual capacity with people taking part from all over Ireland in their own areas and across the world. This is in addition to a large event in Boston where over $50k was raised. The total amount raised for cancer support in Ireland over the past 10 years is €977k.

The money is split. 80% going to the Irish Cancer Society. 10% to Cancer Support Sanctuary LARCC. 10% to Palliative Care. The committee would like to thank those who took part last year as well as those who attended the launch walk this year. The year’s event attracted people from across Ireland, Europe, America as well as Australia and it is the largest charity 50 mile challenge in the world.

Gerry McDonnell on behalf of the organisers said:

“We are so looking forward to June and we are already gearing up for this year’s 2022 Challenge. Registrations are coming in from all corners of the country and it’s exciting to have the buzz of a physical challenge back on. We really appreciate everyone who signs up to the Challenge, even signing up for 5 miles really makes a difference.”

100% of the money raised goes to cancer services in Ireland. The event’s running costs are sponsored and donated by people and businesses. The committee would like to thank all those who sponsored and donated last year, and calls out to any business across Ireland to get behind this great event.
