B. Braun to open new Renal Care Centre in Portlaoise

B. Braun Avitum have been awarded a contract by the HSE to develop and operate a new state-of-the-art Satellite Renal Care Centre in Portlaoise, Co. Laois.

The facility will be located in the Lismard region of Portlaoise town, approximately 2.6km from Portlaoise hospital and 1.2km from the town centre.

As part of the HSE tender process a patient mapping exercise took place, which determined the need for a satellite haemodialysis clinic in the region.

Wellstone Midlands Renal Care Centre is being developed on a green field site, will be 800 m² and at full capacity, will care for 60 patients. Planned opening of the centre is expected in Autumn 2019 with up to 20 medical and ancillary staff. Travel time and cost for patients will be significantly reduced for those currently travelling to Tullamore and South County Dublin for treatment.

The development of this unit will increase the number of B. Braun Renal Care Centres in Ireland to three, including the long established Wellstone Clinic Galway, Co. Galway and the recently opened Wellstone Wexford Renal Care Centre, Co. Wexford opened in January 2018.
